Auburn University President Jay Gogue has proclaimed April 19-25 National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week at Auburn University. The week coincides with the efforts of the American Society for Clinical Pathology to spread awareness of the field, promote interest in laboratory science education and acknowledge the hard work of medical professionals in the healthcare system.

With the theme “Laboratory Professionals Get Results,” the week will celebrate the work of laboratory professionals, including pathologists, medical laboratory scientists, technologists, technicians, cytotechnologists, histotechnologists and phlebotomists, who are trained to perform and interpret laboratory tests used to detect and diagnose disease and monitor treatment.

The medical laboratory science undergraduate program and the Auburn University chapter of Lambda Tau, the National Laboratory Technology Honor Society, prepare students for hospital internships, which allow students to receive certification to perform clinical laboratory testing.
