On Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., the Third Thursday Poetry Series will feature poet Jericho Brown at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. Brown, whose first book won the American Book Award in 2009, has said his work “delves into double-edged father-son relationships, acquiring an education, historical racism, the exigencies of escape and being a gay black man in the U.S. South.” Brown recently attended the NAACP Image Awards as a nominee in the category of “Outstanding Literary Work—Poetry” for his second collection, The New Testament, which he will read from on Thursday. The cafe will open at 5 p.m., with music at 6 p.m., and poetry at 7 p.m. Don’t forget to buy a $7 letterpress printed broadside of Brown’s poem in the museum gift shop.
