Notice body

On Monday, Sept. 15, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. in Langdon Hall, the Women's Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts will present a lecture by members of Solidarity Ignite!: "Human Rights in Global Garment Factories." The speakers will be workers from the Alta Gracia factory in the Dominican Republic, where they sew college and university logo apparel. This factory is the first college logo T-shirt project to pay its workers a living wage, respect their democratic voice on the job and provide a safe and healthy work environment. The result of decades of collaboration between college students and garment workers worldwide, Alta Gracia is transforming the lives of workers, the community of Villa Altagracia and the wider apparel industry. The presentation will be in Spanish, with simultaneous translation into English. The event is free and open to all. For more information: Joyce de Vries,
