Their goal is to provide reviews of products or services, monitor credit scores and provide advice that will help improve one's financial situation to make the best financial decisions. WalletHub is owned by Evolution Finance, Inc. and is based in Washington, D.C.

Spears has acquired a financial and business background through the private sector prior to entering academia. In addition to previous work as a former stockbroker, underwriter, business manager, retail banker and small business owner mostly immersed in corporate America, Spears entered the world of the public sector for a brief stint. It was there that he learned the importance of government/business cooperation for societal gain. He entered academia in 2015 at Columbus State University where he worked as an applied economist and lecturer, then the tour continued with stops in Duluth, Minn., Wilmington, N.C., Charleston, S.C. and Atlanta, Ga. Spears currently utilizes his business background and education to consult in both Atlanta and Charleston. He also currently contributes to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, WalletHub and a handful of other media outlets. He joined Auburn University in 2019.
