Kuznetsova publishes second book, receives acclaim by New York Times

Maria Kuznetsova, assistant professor of English, published her second novel, “Something Unbelievable” this past spring, with Random House. The book received a great review in The New York Times and was a best spring read according to Bustle, AV Club, PureWow, Paperback Paris and more. 

The book is about an overwhelmed new mom who discovers unexpected parallels between life in 21st-century America and her grandmother's account of their family's escape from the Nazis.

Kuznetsova was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to the United States as a child. She received a Master of Arts in Fiction from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and her fiction appears in The Threepenny Review, The Southern Review, Mississippi Review and elsewhere, while her essays can be found in Slate, Guernica and Catapult, among others.

Her debut novel, Oksana, Behave! was published by Spiegel & Grau/Random House in March 2019 and was a Barnes & Noble Discover Pick as well as a best spring read according to Oprah Magazine, InStyle, Pop Sugar and The Wall Street Journal.

She lives in Auburn, Alabama with her husband and daughter, where she is an assistant professor of English (Fiction) at Auburn University. She is also the fiction editor of the Southern Humanities Review and The Bare Life Review, a journal of immigrant and refugee literature.
