Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey proclaims February as Healthy Marriage Month in Alabama

A proclamation signed on Jan. 27 acknowledged the importance of healthy, stable relationships and marriages for Alabama citizens and communities. Ivey is encouraging mayors across Alabama to sign similar proclamations within their respective cities.

The Alabama Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education Initiative, which began at Auburn University in 2002 to address Alabama’s persistent history of marital and family instability, will be providing pre-enrollment in free healthy relationship classes for couples across the state. Classes in “Relationship Smarts” will be offered at select high schools around the state. More information can be found at www.alabamamarriage.org.

The Alabama Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education Initiative, or AHMREI, is housed in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences in Auburn’s College of Human Sciences. AU Alumni Professor Francesca Adler-Baeder is the principal investigator.
