The College of Human Sciences will be offering a Master of Science in brewing, beginning fall 2021. The Alabama Commission on Higher Education recently approved the new degree, which features specialized curriculum focusing on the business, science and art of brewing.

The Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Hospitality Management in the College of Human Sciences has offered a graduate certificate in brewing science and operations since 2014.

“This is the first such program to be offered in the United States—one which combines expansive theory with hands on practice in an online learning environment,” said Department Head Martin O’Neill. “Unlike the more vocationally oriented master brewer type programs available, this is a full Master of Science degree that focuses on the science, engineering, materials, facility operation, distribution and business planning aspects of the craft brewing industry. The level of coverage offered will open a world of opportunity to all those interested in pursuing a career in the craft brewing field.”
