COSAM looking for fall semester Learning Assistants

The College of Sciences and Mathematics, or COSAM, is looking for students interested in earning some money while helping out fellow Tigers by participating in its Learning Assistant Program.
 
COSAM is offering the program for a variety of courses during fall semester, including Introduction to Biology, General Microbiology, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Physics and Engineering Physics. The deadline for applying for fall semester is Saturday, Aug. 1, and applications for the spring 2021 semester will open in October.
 
Learning Assistants are undergraduate students who, through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions and a pedagogy teaching course, facilitate discussions among groups of students in a variety of classroom settings that encourage active engagement. The main responsibility of a Learning Assistant is to support the transformed classroom by assisting students be engaged in active learning activities, such as team-based discussion, problem-solving or project.
 
Learning Assistants are not expected to be content experts but are the connectors between instructors and students. They are well trained with the evidence-based instructional practices from the pedagogy course, and then tasked to facilitate collaborative learning by in a variety of classroom settings.
 
It’s a great way for students to make money while helping others progress in their studies.
