Article body

A new performance group will be starting this fall at Auburn. The Commercial Music Ensemble will perform commercial music concerts on-and-off campus throughout the semester.

Members of this new ensemble will learn and play all commercial musical genres and styles from the 1930s to present day. The ensemble will be multifaceted and may include all the instrumentation of a touring professional contemporary band, including a full rhythm section, horn section, multiple lead and background vocalists, as well as a smaller singer, songwriter and showcase group that will perform in a more acoustic setting.

Auditions will be required.

To audition, participants should submit a video of themselves performing two different current, popular songs on an instrument. They may sing to a backing track as long as there is no lead vocal on the backing track. Video submissions should be no longer than four minutes in length. Participants may be asked for a callback that requires an additional video submission or interview. All styles of music are accepted for the video audition. Inappropriate content will not be accepted.

Video auditions should be submitted to Jilla Webb, professor of practice in the Department of Music, at JRR0068@auburn.edu.

Video submissions should be submitted by Aug. 3, and announcements will be made by Aug. 7 for any callbacks with final decisions to be posted by Aug. 10.

For questions regarding the ensemble or auditions, contact Jilla Webb.
