Saxophone quartet places third in international competition

Exit 51, Auburn University's Saxophone Quartet, recently took third place in the sixth annual ENKOR International Chamber Music Competition. ENKOR is an organization originating from Europe that strives to provide unique opportunities for young musicians to be heard and recognized by the upper echelon of professionals in music industry. ENKOR is notable for having a Jury Boarding consisting of over 500 members from seventy different countries on six continents.

Exit 51 was also the only saxophone quartet to place in their age category. Their repertoire contained music from Bach, Gershwin, Ibert and Glazunov. Two of the selections were arranged by Mike Pendowski, the groups’ coach and an assistant professor in the Department of Music.

Exit 51 members are Jin Kwon, baritone saxophone; Josh McCreight, alto saxophone; Cassidy Powell, soprano saxophone, and Andrew Webster, tenor saxophone.
