The College of Education’s Critical Studies Working Group is hosting a Distinguished Lecture on Critical Studies in Education March 18 at 4 p.m. in 238 Broun Hall. Sara Staley and Bethy Leonardi, co-directors of A Queen Endeavor, will present “A Queer Endeavor: Thinking Queerly About Gender and Sexual Diversity-Focused Professional Learning.” A Queer Endeavor is a national recognized center that aims toward safer, more humanizing schools for LGBTQ+ youth.

Staley and Leonardi have helped more than 7,000 educators learn to queer their instructional practice. Studying educators’ processes of learning has prompted them to think queerly about their own praxis as teacher educators. In this talk, they will unpack what “thinking queerly” means and how they have brought queer theoretical and pedagogical assumptions to bear on their understanding of what’s involved for teachers as they engage with “difficult knowledge” surrounding gender, sexual and family diversity in schools.
