Commuters traveling in the area of East Thach Avenue and South College Street should plan for additional traffic impacts beginning Feb. 24 as a part of the Auburn University Northeast Campus Utilities Expansion project. The new vehicle impacts include:

  1. East Thach Avenue: A section of the road will close from South College Street to just before the First Presbyterian Church. This area will remain closed throughout the duration of the project, July 2020. Vehicles can enter the First Presbyterian Church, and enter and exit the Castillion and Cambridge Dormitory parking lots via South Gay Street.

  2. The Chapel, Ingram Hall and OD Smith Hall parking lot will close for the duration of the project. A map noting alternate parking locations has been posted on the Facilities Management Temporary Road and Facilities Closures page with an updated closure map.

Continuing closures include:

  1. The two northbound lanes in front of The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center will remain closed through mid March for sidewalk and utility construction. Northbound traffic will be maintained and shifted to the existing left turn lane. Motorists should expect lane shifts during this time along South College Street.

  2. The main vehicle entrance to the hotel will remain closed through mid March. Visitors can access hotel, restaurants and conference center parking via the entrance to the South College Street Parking Deck.

Other lane closures and transitions will begin in the area in mid March. Information regarding these closures will be communicated within the next couple of weeks.

The latest detailed map illustrating all closures listed above can be found on the Facilities Management Temporary Road and Facilities Closures page.

The Northeast Campus Utilities Expansion project will expand utilities from West Thach Avenue across College Street in preparation for construction of the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, as well as future infrastructure projects as needed.
