The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures is hosting an inaugural Thomas R. Nadar Memorial Scholarship ceremony. In Nadar’s honor, Paul Harris, professor of political science, will give a talk on Germany Unity Day on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 4-5 p.m. in 3234 Haley Center.

In the aftermath of World War II, Germany was divided along ideological and political lines into eastern and western halves – and remained divided for more than four decades. During the waning days of the Soviet Union, German unity was finally achieved with the reunification of East and West. Today, reunited Germany is Europe’s strongest economy with a vibrant democracy, the continent’s largest country by population and a reliable friend and ally to the United States.
