Board of Trustees honors Rane, family for commitment to new culinary science center

James W. "Jimmy" Rane and the Rane family were recognized at the Sept. 15 meeting of the Auburn University Board of Trustees for their $12 million commitment to building a Culinary Science Center on campus.

The board in April approved the naming of the facility as the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center in honor of Rane's parents. Read more about the culinary science center.

Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager to join Critical Conversations Speaker Series

Auburn University will welcome Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager to campus Thursday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m., in the Student Center ballroom as part of the university’s Critical Conversations Speaker Series.

The daughters of former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, Bush and Hager—accomplished authors, leaders and philanthropists—will participate in a moderated discussion on the topic of Diverse Perspectives on Women Leaders, followed by a Q&A session. Board of Trustees approves 2018 budget

The Auburn University Board of Trustees approved the 2018 fiscal budget of $1.271 billion at its Sept. 15 meeting.

Kelli Shomaker, vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer, said 82 percent of the budget—$1.04 billion—is allocated for the main campus. Nearly $100 million is set for Auburn University Montgomery, $64 million for the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station and $64 million for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Consul general of Japan visited Auburn Aug. 31

Takashi Shinozuka, consul general of Japan in Atlanta, visited Auburn’s campus on Aug. 31. He was accompanied by Yutaka Nakamura, deputy consul general; Tomoko Ohyama, consul; and Mark Jackson, honorary consul general of Japan.

The visit was the latest in a series of visits from international dignitaries and is part of a strategic plan to enhance education by providing more international experiences for students. During this visit, the Honorary Consul General met with students, faculty, administrators and staff. 

College of Veterinary Medicine honors memory of Porter Heatherly with GM1 fundraiser

An event to benefit Porter’s Fund, a Cure for GM1, will pay tribute to Alabama’s first known case of the rare genetic disease, and raise money to support a cure being led by scientists at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Tickets are available for the third annual fundraiser for the Scott-Ritchey Research Center, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m., at the Auburn University Club, 1650 Yarborough Farms Blvd. Read more about the fundraiser.
