Gift to create new culinary science center at Auburn University

A $12 million commitment from James W. "Jimmy" Rane and the Rane family will create a new culinary science center at Auburn University. At its April 7 meeting, the Auburn University Board of Trustees approved the naming of the facility as the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center in honor of Rane’s parents.

Plans for the new facility, to be located adjacent to The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center, include a restaurant, teaching and demonstration kitchens, a beverage appreciation center, a terrace and rooftop function space and a premier spa. The building also will house meeting and board rooms, hotel rooms, suites and luxury apartments. Read more about the new culinary science center.

Last show of Auburn’s theatre season uses satire to confront serious issues

"Exit, Pursued by a Bear," is the final production of the 2016-17 season for the Auburn University Department of Theatre in the College of Liberal Arts.

The show opened on Thursday, April 13, and runs through April 23. Written by playwright Lauren Gunderson and directed by Tessa Carr, "Exit, Pursued by a Bear," is a comedic take on the serious issues surrounding domestic violence and is not suitable for children. Update to general education assessment being given April 19

Over the last two years, the Core Curriculum General Education Committee, or CGEC, has re-evaluated Auburn University's approach to assessing its core curriculum. CCGEC has just concluded a pilot of a centralized approach to assessment where data was collected from more than 800 students, most of which were seniors.

On April 19 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Alumni Center, pilot results will be shared with those interested, and those in attendance can provide feedback. Consider joining the Core Curriculum General Education Committee for the general education assessment update and reception. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration for the general education assessment update is available online. Advanced registration is encouraged.
