Alabama Senate confirms Auburn University trustees

The Alabama State Senate Thursday unanimously confirmed Lloyd Austin, Raymond Harbert and Quentin Riggins as at-large members of the Auburn University Board of Trustees.

Austin retired last year after a nearly 41-year career in the U.S. Army, most recently serving as commanding general of the U.S. Central Command. Harbert is chairman and chief executive officer of Harbert Management Corporation in Birmingham and will serve his second term on the Auburn governing body. Riggins, a former Auburn student-athlete, is senior vice president for governmental and corporate affairs at Alabama Power. They are all Auburn graduates. [Read more]

Aquaponics project supplying fresh food for campus dining

On-campus dining has come a long way since the days of mystery meat and stale pizza. Students today enjoy options that can easily rival restaurant-quality meals. A new initiative at Auburn University is taking campus dining to a new level, using a farm-to-table approach to feed the bodies and minds of students.

The aquaponics project–a collaborative effort among the E.W. Shell Fisheries, the College of Agriculture's Department of Horticulture and the Food Systems Institute–gives students a hands-on educational experience while providing Campus Dining with locally grown food to serve up some of the freshest meals in town. ‘Undercover Boss’ highlights Auburn University Entrepreneurship Summit

BELFOR Holdings CEO Sheldon Yellen donned a disguise to learn more about everyday employees on the CBS show "Undercover Boss," but he won't be incognito when he speaks at the third annual Auburn University Entrepreneurship Summit March 30-31.

Yellen, who heads a $1.5 billion disaster recovery and restoration company employing 6,400 people in 30 countries, will deliver the keynote at the Top Tigers awards luncheon honoring the fastest-growing companies founded, owned or led by Auburn University alumni. [Read more]

Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Program’s 10th annual Research Day March 3

The Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Program at Auburn University is holding its 10th annual Research Day March 3 at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

The event, which has grown each year, brings together more than 175 researchers from throughout the Unites States for a day of learning and sharing information about research related to diabetes and the role of obesity in its development. [Read more]
