W. Kamau Bell keynote speaker for Jay Sanders Film Lecture and Black History Month kickoff Feb. 1

Auburn University's Jay Sanders Film Lecture and Black History Month Kickoff event, held Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom, will feature W. Kamau Bell, a sociopolitical comedian who will present his one-man show, "The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour."

Bell is host of the Emmy Award-nominated CNN docuseries, United Shades of America. The New York Times called Bell "the most promising new talent in political comedy in many years." [Read more]

Auburn University collaboration with STRI Group to enhance sports turf research

Auburn University is joining forces with the world's leading sports turf consultancy to initiate research and development programs throughout the U.S. sports surface market.

The agreement with the STRI Group will focus primarily on expanding in the U.S. soccer industry, as well as conducting surfaces research in other sports including golf, football, baseball and equestrian. [Read more]

Improvements in progress for new porte cochere at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center

Auburn University began improvements to The Hotel at Auburn University including a new porte cochere to enhance guests’ experience when entering the hotel.

The porte cochere is another step toward an elevated service level goal to be considered in the top 5.7 percent of 28,000 hotels approved by AAA to make the Four Diamond list. The improvement will create a comfortable environment for guests in all seasons. The structure will be primarily glass allowing for natural light underneath and throughout the lobby. Fans and heaters will help to maintain controlled temperatures throughout the year. Also, a valet parking service will be added to further assist guests upon opening this addition. [Read more]

Auburn junior wins Student Design League with video board-inspired design

Rebecca Schneider used the new video board inside Jordan-Hare Stadium at Auburn University as her inspiration for a T-shirt design that was popular among voters in this year’s Student Design League.

So popular, in fact, the junior from Spanish Fort, Alabama, won the annual contest at Auburn with her design mimicking the nation’s largest college video board displaying the popular phrase, "Get Loud." [Read more]

Applications due Feb. 15 for Core Curriculum Program in Rome

The Auburn University Core Curriculum Program in Rome, Italy, offers students an opportunity to complete two core curriculum courses over five weeks in a beautiful international setting. The program is a collaboration between Auburn’s Office of International Programs, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Sciences and Mathematics, and the University of Arkansas Rome Center. The center hosts students from several American universities. This partnership offers participants a chance to meet students from other universities and it helps control the cost of the program.
