AU ALUMNI
ASSOCIATION TO OFFER HOMECOMING EVENTS FOR MINORITY ALUMS
AUBURN - The Auburn University Alumni Association has planned several
activities for African-American alumni during homecoming weekend Oct.
8-9.
"The Auburn Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Affairs are
excited to plan these activities to honor our African-American alumni,"
said Debbie Shaw, interim vice president for Alumni Affairs. "Homecoming
signifies the return of alumni to their alma mater, and we are hoping
for a great turn out. We have partnered with several offices on campus
to offer a program that should connect these alumni to Auburn University
and prove beneficial to both."
Activities for Friday, Oct. 8, include a barbeque dinner with the Alumni
Association Board of Directors and other guests, and a step show sponsored
by AU's National Pan-Hellenic Council. The first 150 guests to register
for the weekend's events will receive a free ticket to the show; admission
is $10.
In addition to regular gameday activities on Saturday, Oct. 9, a continental
breakfast sponsored by the Center for Diversity and Race Relations has
been planned. Alums are also invited to the hospitality tent, sponsored
by the AU Alumni Association, to enjoy free food and music among other
activities. The tent is located at the corner of Duncan and Roosevelt
drives.
Kickoff for AU's football game against Louisiana-Tech is scheduled for
1:30 p.m. Tickets, which are $32 each, are still available by contacting
1-800-AUB-1957 or by visiting www.auburntigers.com.
"The Alumni Association reaches out to our alumni in numerous ways,
and our commitment to encouraging and increasing minority involvement
in alumni activities and leadership positions is strong," said Owen
Brown, president of the Auburn Alumni Association. "The entire Alumni
Board of Directors will be participating in some of the activities on
the schedule of events, and we are looking forward to it."
